The disciplines and the future training centre

Airolo reaffirms itself as a key hub for freestyle skiing in Switzerland, thanks to the new Raiffeisen Freestyle Arena, the national training center for Moguls and Aerials disciplines. Built according to FIS international standards, the facility will provide athletes – from young talents to established champions – with the ideal conditions to train and compete.

Freestyle skiing has a strong tradition in Airolo: champions like Noé Roth and Pirmin Werner, stars of the Aerials World Cup, regularly train on Ticino’s slopes. Moreover, the Raiffeisen Freestyle Arena is an excellent venue for international teams, offering optimal training conditions. With this new infrastructure, Airolo strengthens its position on the international stage, hosting high-level events and contributing to the growth of the discipline in Switzerland.

The disciplines

Moguls

The moguls specialists descend on a mogul track making two jumps per descent. They are awarded scores based on the technique of skiing between the humps, the quality and difficulty of the jumps and the speed. This discipline is an Olympic sport since Albertville 1992.

Aerials

In the jumps, also known as aerials, skiers jump on snow-covered trampolines that allow them to perform different figures and flips before landing. A jury assigns a score to each performance. It is an Olympic discipline since Lillehammer 1994.
