Montagne sicure - avalanche training day

For ski tourers, off-piste enthusiasts and those venturing into uncontrolled snowy terrain, proper preparation and awareness of mountain risks are essential, particularly given the current high avalanche danger.

On Sunday 8th of March 2026, from 9:00 to 15:00, we're hosting a day focused on avalanche risk prevention at the Avalanche Training Centre in Pesciüm. The event is organised in collaboration with Montagne sicure.

Throughout the day, you'll meet members of the Cantonal Police's Search and Recovery Group (GRC) and rescuers from Ticino Alpine Rescue (SATI), who'll share valuable mountain safety advice. You'll also have the chance to take part in practical exercises for searching avalanche victims using transceiver kits (ARTVA). During the day, the SATI dog handler unit will also be present for a training session: an opportunity to see avalanche dogs in action and learn about their invaluable contribution to rescue operations.

The event is free of charge and forms part of the Montagne sicure prevention initiative, promoted by the Department of Institutions, which aims to raise awareness of winter mountain hazards. No registration is required: simply attend during the indicated hours and speak to the professionals on site.
