The freestyle in Ticino

Ticino Freestyle is an organization created by TiSki (Swiss Italian Ski Federation) with the aim of organizing freestyle skiing events in the Canton of Ticino.

For many years, Ticino Freestyle, in collaboration with Valbianca SA, has been organizing freestyle competitions in the Alta Leventina region. It all began in 2004, when Airolo hosted two Moguls World Cup events. Three years later, in 2007, the Moguls Europa Cup was brought to Airolo and, for the first time in Ticino, the Junior World Championships in Moguls, Dual Moguls, Aerials, Ski Cross, and Halfpipe.

Since 2013, and continuously until today, the strength and passion have consistently been found to organize numerous Europa Cup competitions both in Airolo and in Prato Leventina. In 2018, 14 years after the first event, the Moguls World Cup has been brought back to the slopes of Airolo – an exciting occasion during which Deborah Scanzio retired from competitive skiing after four Olympic Games and 125 World Cup starts.

Today, the Airolo ski resort serves as a national training center for freestyle skiing and represents a fixed stop on the FIS Europa Cup calendar in Moguls and Aerials.

The Swiss-Ski Moguls team, including our Ticino representatives, has grown significantly over the years. After the first podiums in the Europa Cup and initial victories in the continental overall ranking, Switzerland returned to the World Cup podium with Deborah Scanzio and Marco Tadé, the latter winning the bronze medal in Dual Moguls at the 2017 World Championships in Sierra Nevada.

The excellent work in this discipline is also evident in the emerging Swiss national freestylers, who are carving out an important place in the Europa Cup, and in the TiSki youth sector, which together with the European Youth Freestyle Academy (EYFA) is training the champions of tomorrow.

With great passion, every season we work to promote freestyle skiing through the organization of competitions and events in our Canton.
